The McMasters (1970)
After the Civil War has ended, the McMasters recounts the struggle of a black union soldier (played by Brock Peters) attempting to begin his new life as a free man in America. When he returns to his Southern hometown, he realizes that there are many people that still refuse to treat him as an equal. His ex-master (played by Burl Ives) generously gives him a plot of land for his own tending, but he meets dangerous resistance from local goon Kolby (played by Jack Palance).
